What’s lurking inside your Air Conditioner?

As soon as the temperature makes us uncomfortable we reach for the air con remote but doing so could be harmful to more than just our wallet.

Old and unmaintained air conditioners have been shown as factors in many health conditions, including respiratory conditions and the spread of some viruses. Fortunately, you can do something about it.

You can clean the filters yourself once a month but make sure to have your unit professionally cleaned every 12 months to remove all contaminants such as mould, bacteria, pet dander, dead animals and their droppings.

Carefully pull the filter out and rinse it under running water. Use mild detergent and scrub with a soft-bristled brush to remove any additional dust or grime. When the clean filter is dry, put it back into the unit.

That is not enough however, as deep in the coils and at the back of the unit, mould, bacteria and all sorts of contaminants can build up and then be blown into the air you and your family breathe. This can cause fatigue, allergic reactions, asthma attacks, headaches and illness.
